“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just the heart.”

-Elizabeth Andrew

Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and your time is invaluable in making our events a success. If just 50 parents pledged one hour this year, we could ensure that our staple events run smoothly and continue to create lasting memories for our students. Below are some of the key events where your help is needed:

There are five documents required for each adult to volunteer at any Philadelphia Public School. Please ensure that you have submitted each of these documents to the front office before signing up to volunteer.

Cook Wissahickon HSA hosts monthly virtual Volunteer Clearance Clinics where we walk families through each step required to complete their volunteer paperwork. Click Here to register for our next Volunteer Clearance Clinic.

Volunteer Opportunities at Cook Wiss

  • 5K Run & Walk Fundraiser

Held each Spring, our annual 5K is a major event, both for fundraising and community spirit. We need volunteers to assist with sponsorships, raffle organization, registration, and race-day activities like cheering on participants, handing out snacks, and keeping the energy high. If your employer offers matching donations, this is a fantastic opportunity to maximize your impact.

  • Fall Fest (October)

Organized by Ms. Kimmel, Fall Fest is an annual fundraiser supporting our arts department. It’s a wonderful after-school event where families enjoy safe, engaging activities, play games, and connect with one another. Parent volunteers are essential to help with setup, run games, assist with crafts, ensure safety, and clean up afterward.

  • Annual School Musical

Our school musical, orchestrated by Mr. and Mrs. D each Spring is a beloved tradition. We rely on parent volunteers for everything from helping with rehearsals, costume prep, and makeup, to designing props and collecting tickets. Your creativity and support ensure this event is a showstopper every year.

  • Scholastic Book Fair

Held twice a year, the Scholastic Book Fair is an exciting time for students. Parent volunteers are needed to serve as cashiers, help younger children select books, and ensure the event runs smoothly. Your involvement helps to foster a love of reading in our students.

  • Field Trips

Field trips are an exciting way to support learning beyond the classroom, and we invite parents to join as chaperones! As a volunteer, you’ll accompany your child and a small group of their classmates, assist teachers in keeping the experience fun and educational, and help with practical needs like bathroom breaks. It’s a rewarding opportunity to be part of your child’s learning adventure while supporting our teachers and students.

  • Field Day (June)

Held in June and organized by Mr. Comfort, Field Day is a highlight of the school year, packed with fun and games. Parents play a vital role in making this day successful by helping to set up, running games and activities, assisting with crafts, and helping with cleanup.
